CHANDIGARH: Three of four youths were crushed by a passenger train while taking selfie on a railway track near a Panipat park late on Monday evening.
The three deceased came from Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh and were close relatives.
The victims have been identified as Chaman, Sunny and Kishan. They had gone to the railway track behind the Huda Park in Sector 6 of Panipat along with another relative Dinesh from Delhi.
The four young men, who worked as daily wage labourers, had come to attend a wedding of a relative of Kishan. The wedding was solemnized on Friday and the final rituals were to be done on Wednesday.
According to eyewitnesses, the four had been roaming on the railway track clicking photographs of each other on their mobile phones for over half-an-hour. They said the youths had lined up for a selfie on the track and did not see that a train was approaching. While clicking the selfie, Dinesh noticed the train and jumped towards the right after alerting the other three.
In panic, Chaman, Sunny and Kishan jumped towards the left and got crushed under the passenger train. The accident was so severe that their body parts were strewn across 10 metres. “As the train passed, Dinesh found them crushed on the track and fainted in shock. GRP personnel immediately reached the spot,” a senior GRP officer said.

After inquest proceedings began and autopsy was completed on Tuesday, the mortal remains of the three were handed over to their respective families.
The GRP claimed to have recovered two mobile phones from the spot. The other two handsets were missing, GRP sub-inspector Rajiv Kumar said.
