It was possible to tap and hack mobile phones with the help of the data about Andhra Pradesh residents that was stolen, alleged YSR Congress MP V Vijaya Sai Reddy.
Addressing the media at Lotus Pond, the party headquarters in Hyderabad, Mr. Reddy said that the private company that had access to the vital details could track their movements, alter the files in the phone, even eavesdrop on phone conversations and play all sorts of mischief without the knowledge of the owner, he alleged. The MP wondered why the whereabouts of IT Grids owner Ashok Dakavaram were still unknown.
He alleged that he found out that Mr. Ashok had a meeting with several “hackers” in New Delhi for the purpose of “playing mischief” on May 23, the counting day.
The government paid huge amounts to a few companies for the development of applications with which data of 6 crore people was stolen, Mr. Reddy alleged.
‘Huge payments made’
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and his son Lokesh were involved in the data theft case, he alleged. Companies that were asked to process data for the CM’s dashboard and develop the Abhaya app were given ₹188 crore, Mr. Reddy alleged. The details of what these apps and companies do were still not known to investigation teams that have been trying to get it.
