bollywood Updated: May 01, 2019 13:11 ISTActor Varun Dhawan has finally opened up about the dismal box office performance of his latest release, Kalank, which is also the first flop of his career. The actor has revealed in a video about how his friends took him to Thailand to celebrate his birthday and lift his spirits, a week after the release of the multi-starrer. The film wrapped up in its first week having earned about 74 crore at the domestic box office.
Varun can be seen recording the video in a moving car and says, “My 32nd birthday... But I am going to tell you how it all went down. I was a little down because my latest release did not go the way I thought it would and it did hit me a little hard, I will be very honest. I didn’t know how to react to it. Lot of people told me, ‘don’t show it’. I don’t know how to behave like that. Failures are a part of life.”
He adds, “My friends though had my back. [They] told me ‘pack your bags.’ I said, ‘What are we going to do?’ They said, ‘Muay Thai.’ So the 1:25 flight on GoAir, we flew and the rest you can watch.”
He shared the video of Muay Thai, a Thai martial art, during their vacation. Varun is seen in his Zafar avatar in the video as he goes on to hit kicks and punches and gets a high score on the strength meter.
Varun returned from his birthday vacation a few days ago. He recently attended a friend’s wedding with girlfriend Natasha Dalal in Mumbai. The two were spotted walking out hand in hand.
Varun had also performed on his Kalank song First Class at the wedding. A video of him dancing with his other friends on stage had surfaced on the internet.
Earlier, Alia Bhatt had spoken about the poor performance of Kalank. On being asked about the same at the Critics Choice Film Awards in, Alia had said, “In this entertainment industry, everybody tries to put their best foot forward and try to do what we aspire to do. Sometimes it turns out to be good, sometimes not. And that’s something for us to learn, pick up the pieces and move on. It’s not like the sun shines everyday, it rains sometimes. It’s all a learning for everybody.”
