Tanker fire hits vehicle movement on expressway

The chemical-loaded container caught fire after collision near Anand
Vadodara/ Anand: Massive traffic jam was witnessed on the Vadodara-Ahmedabad Expressway on Wednesday evening after a chemical-loaded container burst into flames after a collision near Anand.
There was a near 10 km long traffic jam between Anand and Vadodara due to the mishap.
Fire engulfed the container nearly one km away from Bedva village near Anand when a trailer truck hit the container. As the truck collided with the container, the chemical spilled over the road and the collision led to fire at around 5pm.
Three persons, who were in the truck, were injured due to the incident and rushed to Karamsad-based Shree Krishna Hospital.
Five teams of fire fighters from Anand were fighting to blaze till late night.
Commuters were stranded as the cops and locals stopped all the vehicular movement near the spot of the incident. Many travelling to Ahmedabad complained of getting stuck in the traffic jam for over five hours. Couple of them even took to social media to vent their anger.
A commuter named Pinank Vyas wrote on Twitter that he had been stuck for over five hours and no help has been received in clearing the traffic.
Sources said that Vadodara collector Shalini Agrawal and another government official from Vadodara who were on their way to Ahmedabad too were stranded due to the incident. But Agrawal could not be reached for comment.

A team Bhadarva police station, Sama police station and traffic branch of city police were also deployed at different locations to manage the traffic.
Bhagyesh Parekh, a Bharuch resident tweeted that people have broke the divider on their own and are returning to Vadodara. There were chances that people from Bharuch and Vadodara could miss their international flights from Ahmedabad
