Shifting may affect services at Gurugram Sector 31 polyclinic

Health care services at the government polyclinic in Sector 31 are likely to be affected in the wake of the proposed shifting of some departments from the Civil Hospital there, staff at the clinic said on Tuesday.

According to health department officials, the Civil Hospital’s surgery, medicine and orthopaedic departments would soon be shifted to the Sector 31 polyclinic to make way for renovation and expansion of the hospital.

However, the shift would hit immunisation drives and maternity care services in the area, said the staff.

The clinic, inaugurated in 2013, is meant to provide health care services to areas such as sectors 31, 32, 40, Mohyal Colony and Jharsa, which don’t have a government hospital.

According to the staff at the clinic, more than 800 children and mothers receive vaccinations and postnatal care, respectively there.

“With the transfer of surgery and other departments from Civil Lines here, these services will take a hit. There are plans to shift these services to the Civil Hospital in Sector 10, which is very far and would cause a major inconvenience to the patients,” said Monika, an auxiliary nurse midwifery (ANM) at the clinic.

The clinic also caters to more than 15 patients of tuberculosis who procure their medicines from there. Its out-patient department (OPD) sees more than 80 people every day. ANMs said these patients would also suffer due to the long distance from the clinic to Sector 10.

However, Dr BK Rajora, civil surgeon, said, “The services at the polyclinic will be adjusted at primary health centres (PHCs) in the district after discussions with officials.”

On Tuesday morning, a team of officials from the health department visited the polyclinic in Sector 31 to assess the situation before the shifting takes place.

“Some repair works need to be done before shifting. A larger water tank has to be installed. A generator is being put up to avoid electricity cuts,” said a health department official who didn’t wish to be named. He also said that the renovation will take more than a week.

However, no deadline has been fixed for the completion of repair work at the Civil Hospital yet, said the officials from the health department.
