Plan to use explosives to blow up rocks abandoned

Tirupur: The Avinashi town panchayat abandoned its plan to used explosives to break rocks for constructing an overhead tank (OHT) after residents opposed the move.
Works for the OHT at VOC Park in ward 13 had started a few days ago. After finding rocks after certain depth, the civic body was planning to use explosives to break them.
“But some residents came out against using explosives, saying it would damage houses in the residential area and pose a threat to the locals,” a police officer said.
The residents refused to budge even after authorities promised to use mild explosives. Subsequently, the officials decided to abandon the plan and use drilling machines instead.
