The maximum temperature in several cities of Uttar Pradesh set new records on Tuesday.

At 47.2 degrees Celsius, Banda district recorded the hottest day in April in 40 years, breaking its previous record of 46.7 degrees Celsius on April 29, 1979. The maximum temperature in Prayagraj was recorded at 46.5 degrees Celsius, a fraction short of all time highest temperature record in the Kumbh city when the day temperature touched 46.6 degrees Celsius on April 30, 1999.

Varanasi broke 9-year-old record when its day temperature soared to 45.4 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, five degrees above normal. Its all-time record is 45.3°C on April 20, 2010.

The maximum temperature in Lucknow on Tuesday was recorded at 44.6°C, five degrees above normal. The all time hottest April day in Lucknow is 45 degrees Celsius recorded on April 30, 1999. The minimum temperature in the city stood at 24 degrees Celsius, two degrees above normal.

The forecast for Lucknow is clear sky. Maximum and minimum temperature would be around 44 and 24 degrees celsius respectively.

Meanwhile, the met department has issued a warning on Fani Cyclone in the state. The department has predicted light to moderate rains with gusty wind (speed 30-40 kmph) on May 2 and 3 across the state.

The precipitation is likely to enhance the humidity by 80-90%, said met director, Lucknow, JP Gupta.

He said, “Farmers are advised to protect the harvest from high velocity winds, rains and moisture.”
