PUNE:
Three Maharashtra students were among the 24 in the country scoring 100 percentile in the
Joint Entrance Examination Mains, the results of which were declared on Monday.
Ankit Kumar Misra, Gupta Kartikey Chandresh and Raj Aryan Agrawal are the three students getting 100 percentile from the state. Ankit topped the state list.
Raj (17) said he had not yet checked the results and so did not know his rank. “I would appear for IIT Advanced. I do not have any specific college in mind which I wish to enrol in. My father works at a private firm, while my mother is a homemaker,” said Raj.
The Joint Entrance Examination Mains was conducted online for the first time by National Testing Agency. Also, this was first instance of the exam being conducted twice.
The candidates who appeared in both January & April examinations, the better of the two scores have been accounted for. Out of 6,08,440 candidates appearing in both the months, as many as 2,97,932 candidates improved their performance, said an official release.
Durgesh Mangeshkar, the founder director at IITians Prashikshan Kendra, said, “This time they have declared a category-wise cut-off percentile. The cut-off score for open category is 89.75 percentile. This corresponds to 95-105 marks out of 360 in various slots of JEE Mains in January and April. The cut-off, therefore, has increased in marks terms as compared to the last year’s, but is similar to 2016 JEE Mains level.”
Vaibhav Bakliwal of Bakliwal Tutorials also said that the cut-off would be around 90 out of 360 for the general category. “Last year it was 74, but this year the papers were comparatively easier, and the two examinations must have also helped students in doing better. Hence, the scores have increased. Around 1,500 students from Pune must have cleared JEE mains as that is the score most years.”
Experts said the opportunity to repeat the exam had been a boon for students. “Considering the two JEE Mains paper in 2019, most of the students have shown marked improvement in their April attempt.,” said Pritam Sengupta, the owner of Adhyayan Institute.
