Air India software glitch continues to impact its domestic flight operations

The software glitch continued to have a cascading effect on Air India’s operations on Monday (April 29, 2019) as well. According to a PTI report, around 29 Air India flights were delayed by an hour on Monday.

As per the report, an airline spokesperson stated that a total of 352 flights were operated on Monday.

The technical glitch happened on April 27, when the airline’s passenger system server, operated by Information technology company SITA, was non-functional for more than five hours. The issue happened during scheduled maintenance and repair work. As a result, the staff was unable to issue boarding passes, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded across various Indian airports.

Air India tweeted:

Although the system was fixed on Saturday itself, the ripple effect was being felt on Sunday and Monday as well — Around 149 flights were affected on Saturday and around 137 on Sunday in addition to the 29 flights on Monday.

The software shutdown primarily impacted Air India’s domestic network.

However, it’s not the first time that such an incident has happened— In June 2018, Air India faced a similar technical issue in the checkin software, thereby causing a delay for 25 flights across India.
