Journalist S.A. Hemanth Kumar, a BJP sympathiser, who was arrested for allegedly creating a fake letter in the name of Home Minister M.B. Patil over the Lingayat issue, was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days on Tuesday.

Mr. Hemanth Kumar was arrested three days ago and his police custody ended on Tuesday. He was produced before a city court and lodged in Parappana Agrahara Central Prison later in the day. His counsel moved for bail and the public prosecutor sought time to file objections. The bail hearing has been posted for Thursday.

BJP leader Shobha Karandlaje State BJP, met Mr. Hemanth Kumar in the CID office on Tuesday. Speaking to mediapersons later, she alleged that the State police working under pressure from the Home Minister were deliberately targeting BJP workers and sympathisers. She claimed that Mr. Hemanth Kumar had only forwarded a letter he received and did not create it, and he was targeted for his BJP links.
