CHENNAI: The DMK on Tuesday evening moved Tamil Nadu assembly secretary to introduce a no-confidence motion against speaker P Dhanapal who issued a notice to three AIADMK legislators under the Anti-Defection Law.
DMK Rajya Sabha member R S Bharathi and party’s legal wing member R Girirajan called on assembly secretary K Srinivasan at the secretariat and submitted the notice.
Whenever the assembly meets, the no-confidence motion will be taken up. Deputy speaker Pollachi Jayaraman will have to preside over the proceedings when the motion is taken up.
“A few days ago, DMK president M K Stalin said that DMK will move a no-confidence motion against the speaker if he issues notice against the three MLAs. We submitted the notice based on what Stalin had said,” said a senior DMK leader.

On March 23, 2017, the DMK moved the no- confidence motion against Dhanapal and it was defeated with 122 votes against the motion and 97 MLAs in favour of the motion.
“When the present notice is taken up in the assembly, the numbers for the AIADMK and the DMK will be different. We are confident of defeating the government,” said the leader.
