German automobile manufacturer, BMW, is gearing up for the launch of the latest X5 in India. The fourth-generation SUV could be launched in two variants; Luxury Line and M Sport. It is also based on BMW’s Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform.
Sharing its platform with the 7 series and 5 series, the new X5 has a lot of aluminium in its structure which makes it lighter than the previous gen. It is also updated with air suspension on all four corners, along with height adjustment and four-wheel drive steering. It also gets a bigger body than the previous generation.
Among the prominent updates in design is the signature kidney grille, which has grown bigger. The matrix LED headlights also flank the grille instead of merging into it like before. The car now gets an aggressive air dam design along with a sleek LED fog lamp setup, in place of round fog lights which were just below the headlamps. The LED tail lamps have also grown and feature a new design.
BMW has equipped the new X5 with its latest dashboard design. The two 12.3-inch displays, one for the driver and one for infotainment, have now been connected to each other. It also gets the latest version of BMW’s i-Drive system, which allows the driver to control the screen by touch inputs as well as a swivel wheel on the centre console.
The India-bound X5 is expected to carry forward the current-gen 3-litre diesel engine, albeit with a few updates to comply with BS-VI norms. The engine makes 261 PS of maximum power and 560 Nm of peak torque. The base price of the X5 is expected to be around the Rs 70 lakh mark, going up to Rs 85 lakh for the M-Sport variant.
