Manisha from same village went missing a month ago

Three days after the Yadadri police found minor girl Shravani’s body buried in an abandoned well in Hazipur, another body was recovered from the same well on Monday afternoon.

While Shravani died reportedly after sexual assault by a gang, the body found on Monday was in a decomposed state. According to Yadadri DCP K. Narayana Reddy, the investigating team led by Bhongir inspector had visited the well to re-examine the crime scene. During the course of inspection, a student bag found in the corner of the well led to suspicion, and soon a semi-decomposed body was found on the side. “The bag has a college identity card of Manisha, 18, a B.Com first-year student of KLR degree college, Keesara,” he said.

The police in the presence of revenue authority and others, retrieved the remains and shifted them to a forensic lab in Hyderabad.

It was learnt that Manisha, also a resident of Hazipur went missing almost a month ago, but parents had not filed a missing complaint, unlike Shravani’s, assuming she had eloped with her boyfriend.

T. Kalpana, a sixth standard girl had also gone missing in the same village in April 2015, but the missing complaint remains unresolved. According to sources, some 20 youths from Bommalaramaram and around, were picked up by the police and are being interrogated. However, the Hazipur villagers blame the police for their failure to respond promptly to missing complaints and drug abuse in the locality. Police sources said the main suspects, including Marri Srinivas Reddy, owner of the abandoned well, who also gave Shravani a ride to the village, is in custody. A senior officer said the investigation was moving in the right direction with five teams headed by a special in-charge. We would soon find a “common thread” he said.

Meanwhile, Bommalaramaram sub-inspector K Venkatesh has been placed under suspension for neglecting crime prevention duty.
