KOLHAPUR: Four people assaulted a 26-year-old youth who had allegedly sent a friend request to one of their wives on a social networking site.
Police said that the condition of the victim, who is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital, was critical.
According to police, Siddharth Parmar, along with his friends, had gone to attend a party at a hotel on the old Pune-Bengaluru national highway on Saturday night. When he was returning from the party, four suspects intercepted him at Gadre garden near Shivaji Park.
One of them asked Parmar as to why he had sent a friend request to his wife on her Facebook account. They beat him with sticks, took him in their car, threw him near the Shivaji Bridge area and fled from the spot.
"Parmar's friends were close on the heels of the suspects' car. When the suspects fled, Parmar's friends admitted him at Chhatrapati Pramila Raje civil hospital. He is critical but recovering," said a police officer attached with Shahupuri police station.

"We have booked the suspects under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 363 (punishment for kidnapping), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint) and section 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC," said the police officer.
"We are gathering information about the suspects and have already identified them. The suspects are on the run. We are searching for their whereabouts and will soon nab them. We are also investigating the reason that the complainant mentioned to us and are trying to find out if there was any other reason for which he was attacked," he said.
