FALL RIVER — A 2-year-old child walking alone near Saint Anne’s Hospital on Monday evening was helped by a good Samaritan, according to police.

A motorist spotted the child near the intersection of Middle Street and Second Street at about 6:15 p.m., said Detective John Robinson. The motorist pulled over and was unable to find a parent or guardian.

The motorist brought the child to Saint Anne’s Hospital, where police were called to investigate.

Robinson said officers located the child’s guardian who told police her 13-year-old daughter had been babysitting the 2-year-old that evening.

The teenager “became occupied” with her friends and left the front door to her apartment open, Robinson said in a statement.

The 2-year-old child wandered off through the front door, he said. The Department of Children and Families was notified of the incident.
