It was a bit of both work and play for the 12 main candidates who fought it out for a month before Mumbaiites sealed their fate on April 29. While some got back to office immediately after poll day, some took time off.

In Mumbai North, Congress’s star candidate, actor Urmila Matondkar said she will keep track of the other elections in the coming days. The actor has now moved to her Bandra house after staying in the constituency during the campaign period and people close to her said that she wants to spend the next few days with her family and her dogs.

Her opponent, BJP’s sitting MP from Mumbai North, Gopal Shetty, however, jumped back to work. He said that he had a busy day on Tuesday as he attended several events. “I came to my office at 9am and have been working ever since. I never take a break and that’s my style of working,” he said.

It was the same with Congress’s veteran leader Eknath Gaikwad who was in his Dharavi office, meeting people of the constituency. He said, “As elections are over, it is back to the routine of addressing people’s grievances,” Gaikwad said.

In Mumbai North Central, Congress candidate Priya Dutt spent some quality time with her family. “I got up late and spent some time with family. I will be meeting friends for dinner tonight,” Dutt said. Mumbai South candidates, Congress Mumbai unit chief Milind Deora and Shiv Sena’s Arvind Sawant also took the day off, to unwind and spend time with family.

Mumbai North West candidate from Sena, 75-year-old Gajanan Kirtikar has also planned a week-long vacation in May at his house in Pune. Kirtikar says that the next few days will also be spent in meeting party workers who supported him through the campaign. He said, “I want to spend some time with my family so we have planned a vacation in Pune.”

Poonam Mahajan, BJP candidate from North Central, spent time with her family on Tuesday. Mahajan’s associate said that her recreation time is limited as she will also start campaigning for the party in other parts of the country.

NCP’s Sanjay Dina Patil was at Vikhroli in the first half of the day, where the ballot boxes in North East constituency were being sealed. His daughter Rajool Patel said he would attend a wedding in Mulund in the evening, apart from meeting people in the constituency.

Sena’s Rahul Shewale was at Dharavi to meet the family of the poll staffer who lost his life on Monday. He also sent a message to all his well -wishers who supported him through the campaign. Meanwhile, Congress candidate Sanjay Nirupam from Mumbai North West said he is back to playing his favourite sport badminton, which he missed owing to hectic campaigning. Nirupam said he will soon get back to work and address pending issues. “I believe in being thankful to the people who have supported me all this while. We have planned lunch and dinner with party workers and leaders.”

Meanwhile , the state’s two star campaigners — CM Devendra Fadnavis and NCP chief Sharad Pawar — returned to their normal schedule on Wednesday with the former choosing to clear files from home, while the latter went on a tour of drought-affected areas. Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray held a meeting with senior leaders about the party’s performance and assessed the drought situation in the state at his residence . Ashok Chavan, Congress state president, reached his hometown Nanded and met local leaders. He will remain there for a couple of days before coming to the city to assess the party’s performance.
