Bhopal: As the polling for parliamentary constituencies in state has begun, the government in a bid to score some brownie points with voters has sought permission from Election Commission to allow it to go ahead with the waiving of loans of around 5 lakh farmers. Principal secretary of agriculture department, Rajesh Rajora, has dashed off a letter to the Commission stating that, 24.83 lakh loan accounts were scrutinised from 51.61 lakh applications, for loan waiver.
The amount of loan waiver was transferred in 20 lakh bank accounts, however, 4.83 lakh bank accounts are still to get the amount. The Commission has been urged to allow the government to transfer loan waiver amount in the remaining accounts. This includes current accounts with less than Rs 50,000 and NPA accounts with less than Rs 2 lakh. It is stated in the plea that a list of such accounts was displayed on portal prior to poll code of conduct coming into effect but approval could not be given following imposition of poll code.
Agri dept forgets to transfer amount in 40,000 a/cs
Agriculture department has made a big mistake in relation to loan waiver of farmers. The department did not transfer loan waiver amount in the accounts of 40,000 farmers, whose cases were sanctioned earlier. These farmers come under remaining 4.83 lakh farmers. These cases which are related to commercial banks have come into defaulter category as no amount was transferred in them
