As many as three Kannada films, starring the family members of the late actor Ambareesh in the lead, are set to hit the screens, coincidently, just after the Lok Sabha election results, which will also decide the political career of Sumalatha.
Ms. Sumalatha, backed by the BJP, is fighting the polls from Mandya against Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy’s son Nikhil.
If all goes as per plan, Daughter of Parvathamma, starring Ms. Sumalatha and directed by J. Shankar, will hit the screen on May 24, just a day after the results are announced.
Postponed
The release of this film was postponed because of the Lok Sabha polls. Likewise Amar, starring Ambareesh’s son Abhishek, is all set to be released on May 31. It is produced by Ambareesh’s friend Sandesh Nagaraj. He said that May 29 will be the 67th birthday of Ambareesh and the family wanted to release the film on May 31 to mark the occasion.
Interestingly Darshan, who has been campaigning for Ms. Sumalatha, essays an important role in Amar.
Re-release
Producer K.C.N. Venugopal is all set to re-release Ambareesh-starrer Antha, which created a history of sorts in 1981. Based on a novel by H.K. Anantha Rao, S.V Rajendra Singh directed this film, which is about the nexus between the underworld and the political system of the 80s.
This film gave a new image to Ambareesh and catapluted him to stardom. Antha was entangled in a legal battle with both the CBFC and courts because of its violent content. It turned out to be a big hit.
Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Venugopal said that Antha will be released on May 29 to mark Ambareesh’s birthday in over 100 screens across Karnataka.
“Antha will be released in 7.1 Dolby Digital sound and technology. The film made in 35 mm Eastman Colour is being released in Cinemascope now,” added Mr. Venugopal.
