Fake insurance racket: STF arrests policeman

Gurgaon: The special task force (STF) of Haryana Police probing the insurance fraud involving cancer patients arrested a head constable of Kundali police station in Sonipat for his alleged involvement in the scam.
Earlier, the STF had busted the fake insurance racket in which the accused would contact terminal cancer patients and get them insured. After their deaths, the accused would present it as “death in a road accident” and claim the insurance money.
Identified as Ashok Kumar, the head constable was allegedly involved in the registration of fake accidental death reports of cancer patients and issuing NOC to their families to help them get insurance claims. The STF officers have taken Kumar on three day police remand and are interrogating him. Kumar, accord to STF, could be a major lead in nabbing the entire cop nexus that allegedly played a key role in the scam.
“There is a pattern in which accident FIRs were registered at particular police stations," said Shamsher Singh, DSP of state crime branch.
Meanwhile, a doctor of civil hospital in Sonipat, who is under STF’s scanner, moved an anticipatory bail application. The hearing has been decided to be held on May 1. The STF is currently looking for one Dr Ambuj Jain, who is absconding.

“Dr Jain has moved the court seeking anticipatory bail and the hearing of the same will be held on Wednesday. We are conducting raids and many others who are involved in the scam, including doctors, cops and staff of hospitals will be arrested at the earliest,” added DSP Shamsher Singh.
With the latest arrest, the number of people arrested in the case has gone to seven. On April 19, the STF had arrested Pawan Bhoriya and his accomplices Mohit and Vikas. Two computer operators, identified as Pradeep Kumar and Pramod Kumar, were nabbed on April, 22. Sumit, son of a cancer patient, who had registered a fake FIR was arrested on April 23. While Bhoria is on in police remand, others have been sent to judicial custody.
