NASA's Excited About the God of Chaos Asteroid Heading Toward Earth

There’s an asteroid out there called 99942 Apophis that’s over 1,000 feet wide and it’s scheduled to fly by Earth on April 13th, 2029.

????Apophis will be coming past at a distance of around 19,000 miles which is potentially closer then some spacecraft orbiting Earth.

????Despite the close call and it being ten years away from approaching, the folks over at NASA are pretty excited about it.

????And that’s because asteroids the size of Apophis, named after the Egyptian god of chaos, rarely pass by Earth so closely.

????Scientists say the encounter with our planet will change the asteroid's orbit and could change how it spins which could bring on some changes on its surface.

????It will be so close that on the day of its approach you should be able to see it with the naked eye, looking like a moving star in the sky.????But don’t worry, Newsweek says that Apophis has been tracked closely and has less than a 1 in 100,000 chance of hitting Earth in the future.
