Apurva Asrani, Hansal Mehta bury Simran hatchet, share love for each other on Twitter

After falling out over sharing credit for the script of Kangana Ranaut’s Simran, Apurva Asrani and director Hansal Mehta seem to have become friends again.

Writer Apurva Asrani and director Hansal Mehta -- who have collaborated on films such as Aligarh and Shahid -- have finally buried the differences that cropped during Simran with a happy exchange on social media. The two had fallen apart over sharing of credits for their 2017 film Simran -- while its lead Kangana Ranaut had said she had co-written the film, Apurv had contested her claims.

As Hansal celebrated his birthday on Monday, Apurva wished him on Twitter saying, “Happy birthday @mehtahansal. Wish you all the luck, health and resources to tell wonderful stories. Best wishes.”

Hansal, too, replied in the same spirit and wrote, “Thank you dear Apu. I’m growing older and want you to know before it’s too late that I love you.” Apurva again replied to him, “I love you too. And I want you to be healthy, happy and doing what you do so well-- i.e tell stories with great compassion. I’m here for you.”

A day before, Apurva had mourned the death of his dog on Twitter. Sharing a picture of the pet, he wrote, “RIP my best friend, my son & my soulmate, Doobie. Thankyou for 12 years of great friendship & unconditional love. Those who knew you will miss you lots.”

Hansal had extended the olive branch by being the first ones to condole his death. He commented to Apurva’s post, “Rest In Peace dear old soul. Love and condolences from all of us. He was beautiful.”

On being asked about the same, Hansal told Mumbai Mirror in a report, “Life is too short for grudges, particularly with people you only have love for.” Apurva reiterated the sentiment, saying, “I just lost a very close family member (Doobie) and loss teaches you to value what’s important in life. Hansal reached out with condolences yesterday and I realised how much he still means to me. We have been friends for 20 years. I think our bond can absorb a Simran or two.”

In January, Apurva had slammed Hansal for “seeking mileage” from producer Kamal Jain’s illness. Hansal had tweeted for Kamal, “Sad News. I completely empathise with him, and the possible cause of his condition. Prayers.”

Apurva, however, launched an attack on Hansal in his tweet, “Precious coming from someone who sent his closest collaborator to the gallows to gain the favor of the so called ‘cause’. No apology, no empathy when your friend had a breakdown & was in the hospital? Please don’t seek mileage from the man’s illness now. Let him recover in peace.”
