Priest, his wife were suffering from ailments

A priest and his wife allegedly committed suicide by hanging themselves at their residence on Saturday in S. Kottala village, Banaganpalle mandal in the district. The police found their bodies on Monday morning after neighbours complained of foul smell emanating from the house. The deceased have been identified as Mrityunjaya Acharya and Sarawati.

The police suspect that the couple had committed suicide as they were childless coupled with Saraswati sufering from kidney failure and heart problem.

The couple, originally hjailing from Racharla village, moved to S. Kottala after their marriage. Acharya worked as a priest in a local temple, and according to the police.

The Banaganpalli police that the bodies of the couple had been shifted to the government hospital and that the bodies would be handed over to their relatives after post-mortem.

Couple hangs themselves

In another incident, a 20-year-old man and a 19-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging themselves to a tree near a dargah in Gorakallu village, Panyam Mandal in the district, on Monday.

The deceased have been identified as Bharath Kumar and Peddakka.

Police suspect that the young couple could have resroted to the extreme step as their parents did not agree for their marriage reportedly owing to their young age.

“The couple were in a relationship for the past two years, and when they approached their parents with the marriage proposal, the parents refused,” a police officer said. Locals claimed that the parents did not approve of the relationship as they belonged to different castes.

Kumar was a resident of Gadivemula and Peddakka was from Bandi Atmakur Mandal. Their bodies have been shifted to the government hospital for post-mortem.
