ALLAHABAD: Faced by repeated incidence of violence and disturbance on the campus, authorities of Allahabad University have decided to revamp the security of all the four campuses. A proposal to this effect has been prepared by the varsity authorities in consultation with their police officials.
Among other steps, foremost is the single entry point at all the respective campuses and raising of boundary wall of the AU.s main campus.
Although this is not for the first time that such a plan has been chalked out as earlier too a similar plan was not only floated on the campus but had actually approved by the Executive Council of AU but failed to see the light of the day.
In the latest plan, which has been drafted in a meeting attended by AU's chief proctor Prof RS Dubey, registrar, CO Colonelganj Shrish Chandra and Inspector Colonelganj. Among other issues, the porous periphery of the campuses, especially the Arts campus, was discussed at length.
As per the recent plan, different entry points of the Arts campus including the one from Union hall, KPUC hostel, Library gate, the one behind department of Ancient history etc would be curtailed substantially.
"Students would be allowed to enter into the campus only from KPUC gate and the administrative or employees could come from Library gate", said Prof Dubey. There would be a guardroom which would check the I-cards of the students and every visitor would be issued gate pass, he added.
Likewise, authorities would be raising the boundary walls of all the campuses and a wall would separate the union hall and SBI bank from the main campus.
Both the entry points would have a high definition CCTV which would provide the needed feed in case of any untoward incident on the campus.
For strengthening the security of the hostel, no outsiders would be permitted to enter into hostel premises after 9pm and 10pm would be the last entry time for inmates.
"Every inmate would have to eat at the mess of the respective hostel and if the inmate refuses to follow, he would be expelled from the hostel", said Prof Dubey.
Likewise, the authorities of Holland Hall management have requested the district administration to help them in complete eviction of the hostel. The letter mentions that varsity and police administration has conducted raids in several of the hostels and have flushed out illegal inmates, but the Holland hall is still in the clutches of outsiders and criminals which should be removed from the hostel premises.
