Babush declares assets worth Rs 21.61 crore

Panaji: Congress candidate for the Panaji bypoll Atanasio ‘Babush’ Monserrate has assets to the tune of Rs 21.61 crore in his name including the assets of his spouse, while assets of Bharatiya Janata Party candidate for the bypoll Sidharth Kuncalienker total Rs 6.02 crore.

As per the affidavit filed before the concerned Returning Officer, the Congress candidate has declared movable assets worth Rs 2.17 crore, while his spouse has movable assets worth Rs 71.34 lakh, which include cash in hand and bank deposits. Monserrate has immovable assets worth Rs 15.99 crore while his wife has immovable assets worth Rs 92 lakh as per the current market price which includes residential buildings.

He owns eight two-wheelers and eight four-wheelers while his wife owns only one four-wheeler vehicle.

Monserrate also has inherited assets worth Rs 1.80 crore in his name.

As per the income tax return filed by Monserrate and his wife for the year 2017-18, the income shown was Rs 1,69,84,756.

Monserrate has declared two criminal cases against him in the affidavit which include the alleged rape of a minor girl and allegedly damaging the Panaji police station and allegedly causing injuries to police personnel.

The BJP candidate Kuncalienkar has declared movable assets worth Rs 91,34,881, while his spouse has movable assets worth Rs 95,46,854 which include cash in hand, gold and jewellery.

Kuncalienker has immovable assets worth Rs 1,47,52,500, while his wife has immovable assets of Rs 1,52,25,000 as per the current market price which includes residential flats.

Kuncalienker has also inherited assets worth Rs 38,27,500 in his name and his wife also holds inherited assets worth Rs 78,00,000.

As per the income tax return filed by Kuncalienkar for the year 2017-18, the income shown was Rs 2,08,500 while the income of his wife during the same period was shown as Rs 17,07,382.
