Police foil attempt to lay siege to Pragati Bhavan

Telangana Bharatiya Janata Party president K. Laxman continued his indefinite fast in protest against the government’s response to the Intermediate results, demanding action against the officials responsible and justice to the affected students inside the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) on Tuesday.

The day also saw several groups of BJP and Yuva Morcha activists trying to storm the CM’s camp office ‘Pragati Bhavan’ on the busy Begumpet road for the second successive day putting the strong police force stationed in the vicinity on tenterhooks.

Heavy traffic jam was witnessed till noon even as the police quickly bundled up the protestors into police vans and whisked them away because they were coming in short bursts. Similar protests were carried out at the district collectorates too.

The BJP chief condemned the police action and said arrests would not deter them. He also appealed to his cadre to conduct their protests peacefully. He reiterated that he would not give up his fast till the government concedes demand of ordering a CBI inquiry and probe by the sitting HC judge as well as rescanning, revaluation and recounting all the answer sheets of students.

Candlelight rally

Mr. Laxman also gave a call for a candlelight rallies all over the State in support of the students on Wednesday and a State bandh on Thursday. In the meanwhile, his party colleagues and senior leaders Bandaru Dattatreya, N. Ramchander and others accused the government of doing nothing to infuse confidence in the students even now due to which more students are resorting to taking the extreme step.

At a press conference here on Tuesday, they once again charged the government of being negligent towards the conduct of examination and subsequent results fiasco.

It was strange that Telangana State was realised following a prolonged agitation but the government was hell bent on crushing any dissent not even allowing party leaders to protest at the Ambedkar statue on Tank Bund.

The current state of affairs would be taken to the notice of the Union Home Ministry, they added. Later, party leaders including general secretary P. Muralidhar Rao, former MLA Ch. Ramachandra Reddy, MLC N. Ramchander, former MP Jitender Reddy and others called on Mr. Laxman at the hospital and enquired about his well being.
