Indore: Parenting is a job with no experience, training or option to quit, so never be afraid to get consultancy and help especially from your parents. This was stated by Dr Bharat Rawat at the workshop on modern parenting organised at Laurels School International on Saturday. He talked about shrinking families and lack of guidance from third generation to help out with parenting. “We want to be perfect parent by providing every material gain, education, opportunities and fulfilling every need as soon as possible,” Rawat said.
This constant pressure of providing the best not only gets to parents’ nerves but is also passed on to children. “We need to modernise our outlook and accept the need to receive help from our seniors, counsellors and psychiatrists at times,” Rawat said. He urged parents to look at the bigger picture and become happier human beings. “We need to be happy, spend lots of stress-free time with our children,” Rawat said. He said child’s needs are limited and will not affect their happiness as much as a parent’s involvement in their life.
Tips for parents
Every child is different. Never compare and expect them to match an image.
Remember kids will do what we do and not we say.
Never fight in front of children. You are hero that they would follow.
Control exposure to outside world. Provide an engaging environment with seniors at home.
Be ready to hear the truth even if it hurts.
