BHOPAL: Ratibad police have arrested three persons with counterfeit notes worth Rs 5 lakh. The police thus claimed to have busted an interstate gang involved in circulating fake notes which were printed at a unit in Jalgaon. The gang would circulate these notes in busy areas. Acting on a tip off that one of the accused was to meet someone at Sakshi dhaba near Ratibad—the police sent in one of their informers. The accused offered the informer notes worth Rs 45,000. Following this one 30-year-old Wasim Khan was held and he revealed the names his associated 24-year-old Saddam and 31-year-old Bhupendra Patil.
He told cops that fake notes originated from a printing unit in Jalgaon. They would target mostly the areas where they could find easy targets like busy markets and other areas where there was need of wads of cash as customers in such places have no time to check every note. His associated Saddam and Patil were arrested from Jalgaon in Maharashtra and their devices were also seized by the police along with notes to the tune of Rs 5.51 lakh.
Wasim and Saddam are relatives and according to police more members of the gang may be on the run. DIG Irshad Wali said, “We are quizzing them to find the amount of notes they have circulated in the state.” Also the cops are looking for their nexus in other states. “Wasim and Bhupendra have been sent on police remand till May 2,” said Wali.
