Mumbai: What we dream when we are inspired to play cricket at an early stage? Most people will say a good coach or a good place to get trained… and if you get coaches who have played at the highest level of cricket then what would you like to learn? Of course skill mental toughness and many more things.
Yes, it’s happening in Mumbai. Three greats of the game, ex-Srilankan legendry cricketers Chaminda Vaas, and Rangana Herath and Ex-India cricketer Wasim Jaffer along with Mumbai Ranji coach Vinayak Samant and Jwala Singh are coaching youngsters under the “Centre Of Excellence For Cricket” programme.
Under these coaches, around 80 boys are working hard at, Mumbai Police Gymkhana, Khar Gymkhana and also at Oval Maiden for the last a couple of days. ,This is the third of their programme in the past two years. Indian Test cricketer Prithvi Shaw and India under 19 opener Yashasvi Jaiswal have been the product of this scheme.
“I am very impressed with these kids they have everything which can help them to achieve their goals,” Vaas says about the kids.whereas Herath keep this very simple and says “ you need to visualise the match situation during the nets and find your own way for getting the batsman out”
