UP Board Results 2019: In Hindi heartland, over 5 Lakh students fail in Hindi paper

A total of 29.50 lakh students appeared in Hindi paper and of these only 23.76 lakh could pass the subject that is the mother tongue for majority of students

In Hindi heartland, more students failed in Hindi as compared to English and Mathematics in the UP Board high school examinations, the results of which were declared on Saturday.

This year, a total of 29.50 lakh students appeared in Hindi paper and of these only 23.76 lakh students could pass the subject that is mother tongue for majority of the students. The pass percentage for Hindi paper was only 80.54%.

Nina Srivastava, board secretary said, “There cannot be any specific reason for such large number of students failing in Hindi. Maybe they had not studied the subject as hard as they had spent time in studying other subjects.”

RK Singh, principal of Babu Triloki Singh Inter College, Kakori said, “Students tend to take Hindi subject lightly presuming that it is their mother tongue and they are well versed in the subject. But, it is not the case. Hindi also demands more time from students as the subject.”

In English, 23.95 lakh students appeared in the exam and of these 18.93 lakh examinees cleared the exam with 5.02 lakh students failing in the Queen’s Language. 79.09% students passed the subject.

In Mathematics, 19.12 lakh students took the exam while 14.09 lakh successfully passed the paper and 5.03 lakh students failed in the mathematics paper.

Sizable high school students failed in Science. Of 29.50 lakh students appeared in the subject, 23.41% passed the exam while more than 6.09 lakh students failed in the subject.

Social science was another subject in which a large number of students failed. Of the 29.50 lakh students who appeared in the paper, 23.75 lakh passed the exam leaving more than 5.74 lakh failed.

As per the results of high school examination,of the total 31,92,587 registered students, including 31,69,583 regular and 23,004 private students, 28,39,284 appeared in the exam comprising 15,17,984 boys and 13,21,300 girls. Altogether 22,73,304 students cleared the exam, including 11,63,735 boys and 11,09,569 girls.

Announcing the results here at Board headquarters in Prayagraj, Board director, Vinay Kumar Pandey said that 2019 High School results registered an improvement of 4.91% from previous year with an overall pass percentage of 80.07% while the Intermediate results recorded a drop of 2.37% which was recorded at 70.06 per cent last year.
