‘I am very proud of Sacred Games’

After films, Anupriya Goenka has been experimenting with the web medium. Her performance in web series like Sacred Games, Criminal Justice, The Final Call, has been grabbing eyeballs. Anupriya played a pivotal role in Hotstar Special’s Criminal Justice, directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia and Vishal Furia. Besides her, the series featured Vikrant Massey, Jackie Shroff, Pankaj Tripathi and others. 

The actress, who also played a part in Padmavaat, says that she was keen to work with the filmmaker (Tigmanshu Dhulia) for a long time. “When I got the opportunity, I signed the project. This web series (Criminal...) has been very special for me,” says Anupriya adding that she is a huge Pankaj Tripathi fan and has always wanted to work with him. “Most of my scenes are with him. We had a great time shooting together and I learnt a lot from him. It was a great camaraderie and people  appreciated our work,” she says, adding, “He used to tell stories of his work and films. For me, the biggest thing was sharing screen space with him. Also, the team was good and it was a great series to be a part of.” 

Earlier, Anupriya was part of ZEE 5’s The Final Call. The series marked the debut of Arjun Rampal on the web platform and Anupriya played the role of an air hostess. 

She has other exciting series lined up. “There is Voot’s Yo Ke Hua Bro season 2 and Asura, in which Arshad Warsi is making his web debut,” she says. 

As the conversation moves towards Sacred Games season 2, Anupriya refuses to disclose much. “I can only say that it has shaped up really well and I am waiting for it to release. I hope people like my character,” she says.
 
The series, starring Saif Ali Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui not only made headlines because of its content but also because of the violence and sex scenes. “I am very proud of Sacred Games. It’s a landmark series and one of the best made in the Indian web space. It is not only entertaining but relevant in today’s time,” she says adding, “The whole point of web is that you can play around with different genres and express yourself in the way the story deserves. I think the audience is intelligent enough to decide what they want to see and not.”  
     
Explaining her reasons to focus more on the web, Anupriya says, “The team we are working with is brilliant and the makers are scaling up web series to the level of films. The production values are the same, the quality of writing is the same and several times, even better.” The actress maintains that as an artist you get to delve into different concepts and play different characters in the web medium. 

“They are socially, emotionally and politically different from one another. The graph of the character is much nicer and we can bite in much more,” she adds.
