>>> reading from the acts of the apostles.
Many signs and wonders were done among the people at the hands of the apostles.
They were together in solomon's portico, none of the others dared to join them but the people esteemed yet more than ever believers in the lord.
Great numbers of men and women were added to them.
The stephen carried the sick out into the streets.
And laid them on cots and mats.
When peter came by at least a shadow may fall on one or another of them.
A large number of people from the towns and vicinity of jerusalem also gathered.
They brought the sick and those disturbed by unclean spirits.
The word of the lord x thanks be to god.
>> give thanks to the lord for he is good.
His love is everlasting.
>> give thanks to the lord for he is god, his love is everlasting.
Let the house of israel say, his mercy endures forever let the house of aaron say his mercy endures forever.
Let those who fear the lord say, his mercy endures forever.
Give thanks to the lord for he is good, his love is everlasting.
I was hard-pressed and was falling, but the lord helped is the lord, and he has been my savior.
The joyful shouts of victory in the tents of the just.
Give thanks to the lord for he is good, he is love is everlasting.
The stone which the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.
By the lord has just been done it is wonderful in our eyes.
This is the day the lord has made, let us be glad and rejoice in it.
Give thanks to the lord for he is good, his love is everlasting.
Reading from the book of brother, who share with you the distress, the kingdom and the endurance we have in jesus found myself on the island called patmos because i proclaimed god's word and gave caught up in the spirit on the lord's day and heard behind me a voice as loud as a trumpet.
Which said, write on a scroll what you see.
When i turned to see those whose voice it was that spoke to me, and when i turned, i saw seven golden lampstands and in the midst of the lampstands one was like a son of man wearing an ankle length robe with a gold sash around his chest.
When i caught him i fell down at his feet as though dead.
He touched me with his right hand and said do not be afraid, i am the first and the last, the one who lives.
Once i was dead, but now i am alive forever and ever.
I hold the keys to the death and the netherworld.
Write down, therefore and you have see and what is happening, and what will happen afterwards.
The word of the lord.
>> thanks be to god.
>> hallelujah, hallelujah.
>> you believe in me, thomas, because you have seen me says the lord, blessed are those who have not seen me, but still believe.
Hallelujah, hallelujah.
>> the lord be with you.
>> and with your spirit.
>> a reading from the holy gospel according to john.
Glory to you oh lord.
On the evening of that first day of the week when the doors were locked and the disciples were for fear of jews, jesus said to them peace be with you.
When he had said this he showed them his hands and his side.
They saw the lord.
Jesus said to them again, peace be with you.
As the father has sent me, so i sent you.
And when he said the ski breathed on them and said to them receive the holy spirit.
Who sins you forgive are forgiven them and who since you retained are retained.
Thomas, called didymus, one of the 12 was not with them when jesus came.
So the other disciples said to him, we have seen the lord.
But he said to them unless i see the mark of the nails in his hands and put my finger into the now marks and pull my hands to the side, i will not disciples were again inside and thomas was with them.
Jesus came, although the doors were locked and stood in their myths and said, peace be with you.
And then he said to thomas put your finger here and see my hands.
Bring your hands and put it into my side.
And to not be unbelieving but believe.
Thomas answered and said to him my lord and my god.
Jesus said to him you come to believe because you have seen me?
Plus that are those who have not seen and have believed.
Now jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples that are not written in this book.
But these are written and you may come to believe that jesus is the christ, the son of god and that through this belief you may have life in his name.
Praise to you lord jesus d.
Christ.
>> you might notice our red glow on my face this morning.
It's not because of my customary blessing.
It's not because i have a vacation after easter sunday, it's from therapy called dynamic.
It just means to heal and cure some old sun damage and precancerous things.
It's a little uncomfortable but that's okay.
Connected with sometimes uncomfortableness that many of you in any of us face to yesterday.
It is good.
And it is wonderful to be with you and on the second sunday of easter to again continue to celebrate the announcement this past tuesday of our new bishop.
Bishop donald hine has been the last four years the bishop of gary indiana.
He is a local man and was born and raised in milwaukee.
He was a priest of the archdiocese and auxiliary bishop for a number of years.
He will come to us.
His installation will be later in june this year to be our new bishop.
We continue to pray for him and pray for our diocese of such good news and wonderful kind of news.
>> so we continue in this easter season which is six weeks long.
On this divine mercy sunday which was established by name by pope john paul ii, our saints pope is that it is reminding us of the power and significance of jesus christ risen from the dead which is the core of our faith as christian people.
Christ is risen.
We continue and we always live in the midst of the voice of our lord that voice that christ has risen but also the voice that reminds us that god is always the last word.
God is the last word.
And so it is that life comes from death and forgiveness comes from rather and triumphs over resistance.
Those realities in our lives that we continue to grow in the goodness and so in the gospel today we fear jesus his first appearance in john's gospel.
His statement to those disciples huddled in the upper room for fear of the jews, perhaps wondering what's next and in a sense of fearfulness about jesus's death is the message of his resurrection.
His first message was peace be with you.
That is that whole powerful gift of divine mercy.
The key to peace is forgiveness.
Jesus having breathed on them the power of the holy spirit send them which has been the gift of the church.
The gift of the first to know that because of christ risen from the dead the goodness of forgiveness is intimately a part of our lives.
And so despite every appearance of jesus's death and the wonderment of his resurrection we continue to hear these accounts.
Eyewitnesses which again, resurrection was a private event for a few but it's one of those that continue to spread because of that message, truth and experience of his real presence that transforms their lives as his first disciples and apostles ensure that good news for us.
It's in john's gospel that it ends today that he wrote this gospel that you may come to believe that jesus is the messiah, the son of god and through believing you may have life in his name.
>> and so it's a powerful message and a powerful statement of god always invites us to know because of our faith and because of god's grace but the fullness of life is about.
When it says that to know when to live in the name of jesus christ and for it to be life-giving it's not one that automatically just gives us the answers because we believe that not also that assurance to us.
It is the pure gift of god's grace and presence.
The truth is central to our faith.
The truth is expressing more powerfully not just on divine sunday but for us always.
That is the gift of forgiveness.
Remember that old saying that areas human but if we give it's divine.
It's how we continue to tap into that grace of reconciliation forgiveness in our own lives as well as in our communities, our families, our nations and world.
Also the gift of living more fully in his life is a path that we have the gift of hope because of jesus christ.
Because of god's promise i'm always with you.
God will always have the last we grow into the perfect gift of god's divine love.
We can end up in our hearts to grow in that powerful gift of christ risen from the dead and what it means life.
>> i believe in one god, the father almighty.
A maker of heaven and earth.
Of things visible and invisible.
I believe in one lord, jesus of god.
One of the father before ages.
God from god, light from light through god from true god.
Begotten and not made substantially the father.
For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven.
By the holy spirit was of the our sake he was crucified and suffered death and was buried.
He rose again on the third day in importance with the scriptures.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no answer.
I believe in the holy spirit, the lord and giver of life proceeds from the father and the son who with the father and the son is adored and glorified spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one holy catholic church.
I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and i look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.
Amen.
>> god of mercy and redemption we ask you to hear the players we place before you in great confidence and hope.
That pope francis, and also minister phase 2 others may faithfully and steadfastly proclaim the great love and mercy of god, we pray to the lord.
Lord hear our prayer.
>> for leaders elected and appointed that they will work for the good of everyone with wisdom, humility, justice and mercy, we pray to the lord.
>> lord hear our prayer.
>> that we will always have the faith to recognize jesus in the mercy of god and to show that mercy to others.

It's the work of human hands and we will become for us the bread of life.
>> blessed be god forever.
>> blessed are you lord god of creation for three or goodness we have received the wine we offer you, fruit of the woodbine and work of human hands it will become our spiritual drink.
>> blessed be god forever.
>.
>> pray sisters and brothers that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to god our almighty father.
May the lord accept the sacrifice that your hands for the praise and glory of his name for the good of his pray the oblations of your people and not renewed by confession of yearning and by baptism they may obtain unending happiness through christ our lord.
>> in the lord be with you.
>> and with your spirit.
>> lift up your hearts.
>> we lift them up to the lord.
>> let us give a lot thanks to the lord our god.
>> it is right and just.
>> it is through the right and just our duty and our salvation to claim you lord.
But in this day above everything clouds you yet gloriously one christ over passover has been sacrificed for he is the truly am who is taken away the sins of the world.
By dying he has destroyed our death and by) restored our life.
>> therefore overcome with joy every land every people and praise.
Even the heavenly powers with the angelic host sing together the glory as they claim.
>> holy, holy, holy god of hosts.
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
I was on and the highest.
Name of the lord.
Was on anaos.
>> you are indeed holy oh lord.
The folds of the holiness.
Mcculley therefore these gifts we pray by sitting down your sentence upon them like they do so that they may come for us the body and blood of our lord jesus christ.
>> at the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion he took bread and giving things broke it and gave it to his disciples.
This is my body which will be given up for you.
>> when supper was ended he took the chalice and once more giving thanks gave it to his disciples saying take this and drink from it.
This is the chalice of my blood, the blood of the new an internal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many.
For the givenness of sins.
Do this in memory of me.
>> mystery of faith.
We proclaim your death of lord and process your resurrection until you come again.
Therefore as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection we offer you lord the bread of life in the chalice of salvation.
Giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you.
We pray that partaking of the body and blood of christ may be gathered into one by the holy church spread throughout the world and bring it to the fullness of charity together with francis our pope.
