Man tasered and charged after Gold Coast chase lands three in hospital
A man has been tasered, arrested and charged with multiple offences after allegedly threatening police at knife point and causing a crash during a high-speed chase in south-east Queensland.
The crash led to three people being taken to hospital.
Police said the 29-year-old man allegedly stole a grey BMW car from Coopers Plain, which had been missing since April 23, and drove it from Goodna to Surfers Paradise on Saturday night.
A police spokesman said the car was seen by police just before 9pm at a BP service station on Brisbane Road at Goodna where police tried to arrest the driver.
"The man has then threatened police with a knife before driving off at high speed," he said.
"It will be alleged the driver has tried to refuel the stolen car a number of times before trying to allegedly car-jack other cars before reaching Surfers Paradise."
Polair found the car a short time later and tracked it to Clifton Street and Remembrance Drive at Surfers Paradise just before 11pm.
Nine News reported after the man allegedly rammed a police car, the pursuit came to an end when the car drove into oncoming traffic and hit multiple vehicles before it slammed into a brick wall.
A man in his mid-20s as well as an elderly couple, believed to be in the other cars, were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
The 29-year-old man was charged with dangerous operation of motor vehicle, unlawful use of motor vehicle, attempted unlawful entry to a car, obstructing police and possession of a dangerous drug.
The man will appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on Monday.
Police are continuing their investigations in relation to unrelated offences.
