NEW DELHI: A 52-year-oldwoman was found murdered inside her flat in a gated housing society in Dwarka’s sector-7 on Friday.

The woman, Meenu Jain, was alone in her house in Air Force and Naval Officers Enclave on Thursday night. Her husband, an IndiGo pilot and a former Indian Air Force wing commander, was away on official duty. Cash, foreign currency, jewellery and two mobile phones worth Rs 10 lakh were found missing from the flat.
Meenu’s father, H P Garg (76), a retired professor of IIT Delhi, was among the last persons to talk to Meenu on Thursday evening on hearing she was unwell, presumably after an allergic reaction to cashews.
“Her voice was wobbly when I spoke at 7.45pm. I wanted to visit her, but she asked me not to,” Garg told police.
Next morning, she was found dead on the bedroom floor. Though there were no visible wounds, her face had red marks and there were blood stains on a towel lying nearby. Initial medical tests indicated she might have be en smothered.
Killers had friendly entry, had tea, closed door before leaving
On Friday morning, Garg again called up Meenu to check on her but found both of her phone numbers were unreachable. Worried, he went to her flat with his son Darpan and rang the doorbell many times but to no avail. Later, one of Meenu’s neighbours helped Darpan enter her flat through his balcony. Darpan went inside,
broke the glass window and found his sister lying on the floor of the bedroom.
Meanwhile, the main door of the house couldn’t be opened from outside, even with its key. The family members and neighbours broke the door of the flat and took Meenu to a private hospital where she was declared brought dead. Her body was shifted to the mortuary where an autopsy would take place.

An investigation of the scene of crime revealed that the killers had a friendly entry and locked the maindoor before leaving. The cupboards of the house were found ransacked with cash and jewellery missing. Two gold bangles and three diamond rings that Meenu was last seen wearing were also found missing.
Police suspect Meenu was smothered with pillows and towels that were found lying next to the body with some hair strands also found on one of them. Tea was found in five China cups. A team of forensic experts has collected the samples for a DNA match.
