In next two days, Ahmedabad to be in grip of a heatwave

Maximum temperature during the day would remain around 45 degree Celsius

On Saturday, the city recorded the second highest temperature for 2019

India Meteorological Department (IMD), on Saturday, cautioned that a heatwave is likely to grip Ahmedabad on Sunday and Monday.

The department has informed the city authorities regarding the high temperatures. Following the alert, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has issued a red alert and advisory for the people that during the next two days maximum temperature during the day would remain around 45 degree Celsius.

The weather warning has advised the authorities and all stakeholders to take precautionary measures. According to the IMD, at present northwesterly to northerly winds are blowing across the state at a lower level.

The bulletin further stated that the rise in maximum temperature by 2-3 degree Celsius on Sunday, April 28 and Monday, April 29 are very much likely across the state.

For Sunday, the maximum temperature in the city is likely to remain around 45 degree Celsius. The minimum temperature could be around 28 degree Celsius.

On Saturday, the city recorded the second highest temperature for 2019. The maximum temperature recorded was 43.6 degree Celsius which was two degrees above the normal.

On April 4, the city recorded the hottest day in April in last nine years when the mercury touched 43.7 degree Celsius mark.

The minimum temperature was recorded at 27.2 degree Celsius which was two degrees above the notch.

Doctors advise avoiding going out.

"Physical exhaustion activities should be avoided during such high temperature and to take care from the extreme temperature one should avoid going out during noon hours. Hydration is the key to avoid heat-related illness and heat stroke. Keep drinking fluids," said Dr Maharshi Desai, critical care specialist.

Regions at risk

On Sunday, heatwave conditions very likely to prevail at a few places namely Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Surat, Kutch, Bhavnagar, Veraval, Porbandar, Rajkot, Amreli, Surendranagar, Kutch and Diu.On Monday also heatwave conditions are very likely to prevail in different districts across the state.
