Man gets fake dealership offer, duped of Rs 7 lakh

Gurgaon: Police on Friday registred a case against unknown persons for allegedly duping a man of Rs 7 lakh on the pretext of offering him a dealership of a premium two-wheeler company. Nikhil Bansal, a resident of Sohna, had lodged a complaint on January 25 alleging that a group of men took the amount from him after claiming to offer him a Royal Enfield dealership.
On May 25 last year, Bansal applied for an authorised dealership of Royal Enfield in Sohna through the company’s website. On May 28, he received an e-mail from the company stating that they do not have any plan to appoint a dealer at Sohna. The company asked him to submit details including mobile number for further communication.
On January 18, Bansal received a call on his mobile phone, in which the caller claimed to be a representative of Royal Enfield. He was reportedly told that his application for dealership at Sohna was approved. Within a few seconds, according to Bansal, he received a dealership from. “The e-mail comprised details regarding investment, margin, facilities, company policy. As the e-mail seemed to have been sent from the company, I filled the form and also submitted the required documents,” said Bansal.
On January 21, Bansal received another email confirming acceptance of the application. He then received a call from a person who identified himself as a sales manager of the two-wheeler company and asked him to deposit Rs 2 lakh, which he transferred. The fraudsters also gave a payment receipt for the same.

On Januray 22, Bansal received a copy of “approval certificate of dealership” along with an email that asked him to deposit another Rs 5 lakh, which he did. However, when Bansal received a request to deposit another Rs 5 lakh, he refused. He then visited the registered office of the company in Delhi, where he found out that he was being cheated.
An FIR against unknown persons was registered under sections 419 (cheating by personation), 420 (cheating) of the IPC and sections 66C (identity theft) and 66D (impersonation by using by computer resource) of the IT Act. “The accused will be arrested soon,” said police spokesperson Subhash Boken.
