Punjab: Woman held for drug peddling with help of jailed son

LUDHIANA: A woman drug peddler has been arrested with 440 grams heroin worth Rs 2.20 crore by Special Task Force (STF), Ludhiana unit. According to STF, the woman was running a drug nexus with the help of his son lodged in jail. The son used to inform her about drug smugglers and also customers over phone from inside the jail. Ludhiana jail authority has recovered mobile from the accused.
The woman arrested by STF has been identified as Sukhwinder Kaur, 55, of Nirmal palace road. The woman has been facing trials in three different cases of NDPS and came out on bail an year ago. Woman's husband Sukhdev Singh and son Lovedeep Singh are also drug peddlers. The father son duo also have six cases of drug peddling against them.
The in-charge STF Ludhiana range, inspector Harbans Singh said that, the woman was arrested form a checkpost established at Nirmal Nagar road following a tip-off. The woman was crossing by the area on her scooter. On frisking the police found 440 grams heroin from the purse of woman kept under the seat. The police have also recovered one electronic weighing machine from her possession. The woman was going towards Focal Point for delivery of heroin.
"The woman, her husband and son are into drug peddling for more than six years. The woman has confessed that she used to procure heroin from a Nigerian native living in Vikaspuri area of Delhi to whom she met in Ludhiana Jail, an year ago", he added further.
On the information of STF officials the jail authority of Sunday have recovered mobile from Lovdeep and got an FIR lodged in division number 7 police.
"Sukhwinder has confessed that she used to hire a taxi to reach Delhi and would bring heroin to further supply among her customers in Ludhiana, hiding in it. Sukhwinder has both male and female customers" added Harbans.
Lovdeep has also been nominated in the case and would be brought on production warrant for further questioning.
