Uyare, the just released Malayalam film depicting the struggles of an acid attack survivor, has explored the scope of silicone prosthetic make-up to make the lead character played by Parvathi Thiruvoth perfect, feels director Manu Ashokan and his team.
They said at a meet-the-press event here on Saturday that the pain taken by the actor in her transition as Pallavi Raveendran during the time-consuming make-up procedure should be appreciated. “She had to wait for hours with the prosthetic makeover. Without her cooperation and patience, it would not have been possible to come up with such an unusual character,” said Mr. Ashokan. He said the effort made by the artistes from Dirty Hands Studio too was creditworthy.
Shenuga, Shegna and Sherga, daughters of P. V. Gangadharan, who produced Uyare, said the casting was done after assessing the calibre of each actor. “We were confident that Parvathi, Tovino Thomas and Asif Ali were all capable of giving life to the characters the way we desired,” they said.
Mr. Gangadharan, also a former chairman of the Kerala State Film Development Corporation, said the film would inspire those who wanted to fight against the odds in their lives. “The topic selected for the project is so relevant today and it also serves to create awareness on acid attack survivors,” he said.
