2 teens drown in stone quarry pit

Tirupur: Two teenage boys were drowned in a stone quarry pit near Ammapalayam in the city on Sunday.
Police identified the deceased as S Gokul, 16, of Kongu Main Road, and P Harihara Sethu, 16, of Kumaran Street, who were studying in Class XI at a private school in the city. “Gokul and Sethu, along with their friend Sujith, 14, went to take bath in a stone quarry pit. While taking bath, Gokul, suddenly, struggled to keep himself afloat. Seeing this, Sethu tried to help him, but both of them drowned in the water,” a police officer said.
Sujith alerted neighbours, who in turn informed police. They reached the spot with fire and rescue services personnel from Tirupur north and recovered the bodies and sent them to the government hospital in Tirpur for postmortem.
The Tirumuruganpoondi police registered a case. tnn
