FOXBORO – The Patriots continued to build depth in the trenches on Saturday.

In the fourth round, with pick 118, the Patriots selected guard/center Hjalte Froholdt from Arkansas.

Froholdt came into this draft as one of the best athletic fits for the Patriots out of all interior offensive linemen. The Denmark native hit almost every Combine average the Pats draft – height, 40, vertical, bench, broad jump, 3-cone and shuttle. He felt short of one mark – weight by four pounds.

Aside from the athletic traits, Froholdt was also a team captain and four-time SEC Academic Honor Roll. Last season, he earned Second Team All-SEC honors after starting 12 games at both center and left guard. Froholt didn’t allow a sack during the 2018 season.

Froholt played mainly at left guard at Arkansas, which is notable. He’ll not only provide depth in the interior of the offensive line, but a potential replacement for starting left guard Joe Thuney, who will be a free agent in 2020.

Froholt joins Thuney, Shaq Mason, Ted Karras, David Andrews, James Ferenz, Brian Schwenke and Jake Eldrenkamp at guard and center.
