Ladies and gentlemen, let us introduce you to the Manticore Project, a custom 1969 Ford Mustang with a supercharged Coyote V8 and an interior straight from sci-fi movies.

It belongs to Hassane El-Khoury, the president and CEO of Cypress Semiconductor, a company that develops software and touch-sensitive controls for OEMs. That came handy when El-Khoury decided to make his dream of owning a badass Mustang a reality.

The car was subjected to a full restoration that included the installation of the modern 5.0-liter V8 along with a supercharger, new suspension and brakes and a six-speed manual transmission. Power is rated at a pretty scary, for an old ‘Stang, 785 HP.

In stark contrast to the old-school exterior, the Manticore features a completely custom dashboard that shares nothing with the donor car – or any other modern car, for that matter.

In fact, it’s more high-tech than anything you’ll encounter right now on the market. Interior panels were 3D-printed, the instrument cluster was replaced by a large digital display and everything is controlled by touch-sensitive controls, including the power windows, which can be raised or lowered by touch sliders.

The car can start with either fingerprint identification, an RFID or a PIN, as there’s no traditional key. The infotainment system has been designed to be paired directly to a smartphone that’s used for streaming music to the high-end audio system as well as navigation, and can even receive over-the-air software updates.

Whether you like the idea of a classic Mustang boasting many non-original parts, you have to admit that the technology showcased in this 1969 Mustang is pretty impressive. Mind you, the car doesn’t look half-bad either, except maybe for that rear end that seems a bit heavy-handed.
