more-in

Passengers bound for Southern districts from Erode Railway Station had to wait for over six hours on Friday after the railway authorities failed to inform them about the change in operation of Erode - Tirunelveli passenger train. Owing to track maintenance works at Kodumudi, the passenger train that was supposed to depart from Erode, was operated from Kodumudi.

Unaware of this, passengers from Jolarpet arrived at the station in a passenger train at 10.30 a.m. They were to board the Erode – Tirunelveli passenger at 12.50 p.m. Those proceeding towards Madurai, Kovilpatti and other southern districts prefer the train and had taken tickets at Jolarpet junction.

But the train did not depart at the scheduled time. When they took up the issue with the railway officials at the ticket counter, they were informed about the change in the departing station.

Passengers said that railway officials should have informed them about the change atleast when they bought the tickets at Jolarpet. They said that their travel plan was completely delayed and blamed the railway administration for failing to inform them even at the Erode Railway Junction.

Later, they bought fresh tickets and boarded the Bengaluru – Nagercoil Express that left the station at 5 p.m.
