Telangana Rashtra Samithi corporator Gunda Prakash Rao was unanimously elected Mayor of Warangal at the special general body meeting of Warangal Municipal Corporation which was presided by Warangal Urban district Collector Prashant Jeevan Patil. Earlier, TRS observer for the election and Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation chairman Gyadari Balamallu informed the party corporators that Mr. Prakash Rao was chosen for the post by the leadership.

His name was proposed at the meeting by a corporator Vaddiraju Ganesh which was unanimously accepted by the TRS group that enjoyed majority.

The election of Mayor was necessitated because the incumbent Nannapuneni Narendra was elected as TRS MLA from Warangal (East). Mr. Prakash Rao was a Congress corporator in nineties and joined TRS after formation of the party.
