Nurse commits suicide, doctor booked

Rajkot: Two suicide cases have been reported from Surendranagar district and Rajkot city. A nurse committed suicide at a village in Surendranagar district on April 24, while in the second case, a lady professor consumed poison on April 25 evening.
The first case was reported from Jhinjhuvada village of Patadi taluka in Surendranagar district, where Mayuri Parmar (22), who served as a nurse at the primary health centre of the village, consumed poisonous tablets on April 24. She died at the VS Hospital in Ahmedabad on Thursday.
“We have booked Dr Naresh Makwana, who is the head of the primary health centre, for the crime on the complaint of Mayuri’s father Kalu Parmar. His complaint alleged that Makwana used to harass Mayuri as she did not give in to his demand for sex,” said an official from Jhinjhuvada police station.

In the second case, Saipranata Patimala (25), who served as a lady professor with RK University in Tramba village of Rajkot taluka, died after she consumed poisonous tablets on the evening of April 25. Her husband and in-laws were booked on Friday night.
“We have booked Saipranata’s husband Murlinath Patimala, also a professor with the same university where she used to teach, and her mother-in-law Lakshmisujat Patimala, on the complaint of the victim’s mother Bramaramba Josyula. She accused Murlinath and Lakshmisujat of harassing Saipranata for dowry,” said an official from Aji Dam police station.
