Rajasthan Royals’ skipper Steve Smith took a blinder to get rid of the Sunrisers Hyderabad opener David Warner during a titanic Indian Premier League (IPL) clash between the two teams at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Japiur on Saturday.

In the 13th over of the Hyderabad innings, Warner top-edged an Oshane Thomas delivery high in the air and Smith – who was fielding at mid-off - ran full length to his right and completed a brilliant diving catch.

The official handle of IPL uploaded the video on social media and their post read: “WATCH: Steven Smith’s brilliant running catch”.

Smith’s effort in the field helped Rajasthan storm right back into the match as it brought curtains to the 75-run stand between Warner and Manish Pandey. The away side then lost their way in the middle overs and were eventually restricted to 160/8 in 20 overs.

Smith also ended Warner’s efforts of etching his name in IPL history books. The southpaw was gunning to become the first cricketer in the history of the tournament to hit six consecutive fifties. But he couldn’t do so as he was dismissed for 37 (32).

With five fifties on the trot before this clash, Warner still tops the most consecutive fifties in IPL charts along side Virender Sehwag and Jos Buttler. Sehwag managed to hit five fifties in a row during the 2012 edition of the league while Buttler did so last season.
