The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Friday issued a notice to the Haryana government seeking a report within four weeks on the collapse of a government hospital in Gurugram.
Taking suo motu cognisance of media reports, the NHRC said that 16 newborn babies had a narrow escape when a portion of the ceiling fell.
“Though there were no injuries to the babies, the incident has exposed the risk to the patients in the civil hospital building, which has already been deemed dangerous by the agencies concerned as on multiple occasions the slabs have fallen off,” an NHRC statement said.
The NHRC also issued a notice to the Director General of Prisons, Haryana about Wednesday’s incident of an inmate found hanging in the washroom of Bhondsi jail. The DG has also been given four weeks to respond.
