An auto rickshaw driver was arrested at Kalyan, a day after he killed his wife and attacked their daughter for not informing him of the latter’s impending marriage.

On Saturday early morning, the accused Mohan Mahajan, 59, was caught from Haji Malang road after police laid a trap for him. “We lay in wait for more than 12 hours after we received information about Mahajan’s whereabouts,” said Pramod Sanap, investigation officer, Bazarpeth police station.

Mahajan, who had left his family two years ago, was angry that he was not informed of his daughter’s wedding as his name was not on the invitation card. On Thursday night, he went to his family’s home and started arguing with his wife Manisha ,45, and daughter, Gauravi, 24. He fatally stabbed his wife and when his daughter tried to intervene, Mahajan attacked her too, before fleeing.
