A Belapur-CSMT harbour line local train exceeded its halt mark and rammed into the buffer stop at Mumbai CSMT platform on Friday morning.
Railway officials confirmed there were no injuries due to the incident that happened at around 11.30 am on platform number 1, while the train was about to make a halt at CSMT.
However, railway officials claimed that the local slightly touched and did not dash into the buffer stop. A railway official said, "It has not dashed into the stop, but touched it slightly. There were no repercussions or damage due to it. The buffer is given for the purpose of safety."
Further, services were running with a normal operational delay of five to 10 minutes. A railway official further added, "There is a possibility that the incident might have occurred due to over-speeding but the same cannot be concluded yet."
The railway official added, "An inquiry will be made into the incident that will make it clear why the local train touched the buffer. There were no injuries due to the incident but it can be called an incident that mandates inquiry."
Similar incidents of local trains dashing into buffer stops have been reported in the past. In December 2015, a similar incident wherein a local train dashed into the buffer at CSMT's platform number 5 was reported. In June 2015, a similar incident of a local train dashing into buffer was reported at Churchgate station, in which around 4 passengers were injured.
