KALYAN: A 50-year-old man killed his wife, tried to kill his daughter and fled on Thursday night. His daughter, whose wedding is scheduled on May 8, is serious in hospital. The incident shocked family members and neighbours in Thankarpada, Kalyan (W).

Bazarpeth police said a family dispute was the reason for the killing as Mohan Mahajan, a habitual drinker, stays separately. Mohan has been on the run for three years, while Manisha (45) was residing with her daughter Gauri (25) and younger son Shreyas (21). Police said on Thursday night, Mohan came home drunk and had a dispute with his wife and daughter, while Shreyas had gone to distribute wedding cards.
Mohan had allegedly stabbed his daughter on her throat and fled. Police said Manisha died on the spot, while Gauri ran outside the house. Seeing her, locals rushed her to Shreedevi hospital in Kalyan, from where she shifted to Ved hospital. Assistant inspector Pramod Sanap said, “A primary probe shows the family had a dispute but we are waiting for Gauri to recover.
