Dhandapani (38), Fruit seller
Ilive in Maduravayol and started selling fruits in 2002 after my marriage. Before that, I was working at a printing press, but unfortunately, I lost my thumb in an accident during work. I was asked not to strain the hand after surgery. I started my business after that. I used to sell fruits in many places across the city till I found a suitable place in Perungalathur. I go to Koyembedu market every day morning on my two-wheeler and return to Perungalathur to open my stall at 9 am. I buy pomegranate in large quantity as its good for health and there is constant demand for the fruit. Along with it, I choose one more fruit according to the season. I park my two-wheeler at the junction and make the sales there. I have been doing business at the same spot for 17 years now. People here are good and I have regular customers. If I fail to open the stall one day, they enquire about me. I have a daughter and a son studying in Class 10 and Class 6. They are very good at studies and I work hard to make them reach great heights. So, I make sure I sell all the fruits that I bought in the morning before closing business for the day.
