Photographer hurt in scuffle at Fraser Anning press conference
A 19-year-old man has been detained by police after a fight broke out following a press conference with far-right senator Fraser Anning in Cronulla.
News Corp photographer Dylan Robinson was left with a torn shirt after a verbal exchange between journalist Eliza Barr and a man, believed to be a supporter of the senator, became physical.
Video footage shows Ms Barr and Mr Robinson walking towards the parking area outside the park before the other man attempts to knock Mr Robinson's camera out of his hands.
He then throws several punches before another man breaks up the scuffle.
Mr Robinson does not punch back, but takes photos of the man as he walks away.
The 19-year-old was then searched and placed in the back of a police van.
"A man has been arrested following an altercation in Cronulla this morning," a police spokesman said.
"Officers from Sutherland Police Area Command were called to Dunningham Park, Cronulla, about 10am.
"A 19-year-old man is alleged to have become involved in a physical altercation with a female journalist and a male cameraman during a press conference with a federal senator.
"The man has been taken to Sutherland police station."
The photographer was hurt after Senator Anning’s press conference, where he was introducing his candidate for the seat of Cook, Peter Kelly.
Cook is currently the electorate of Prime Minister Scott Morrison.
A spokesman for Senator Anning said that the Senator will be holding a press conference at 3.30pm in Brisbane to discuss the events of Friday morning.
It's not the first time this year that an Anning press conference has turned violent. In March, teenager Will Connolly cracked an egg over the back of the senator's head in Melbourne, before being wrestled to the ground by a group of adult men.
The act led to Connolly being colloquially known as "Egg Boy", and footage of the egging being replayed around the world.
